Miss Productivity

This weekend was nothing if not productive. Sure, I didn't have all that much fun, but at this point in the quarter (week nine out of ten) fun is just not on the menu. I had a computer fiasco on Thursday night (again! motherf*cker!) but Total Marisa Meltdown was averted by using D's work laptop until I could get downtown to the Apple store on Friday afternoon/night to get it fixed. Bah. Rarg. Apple, I am quickly losing my faith in you. Friday I skipped thesis small group meeting. I emailed my preceptor (thesis meeting leader) to tell her that I was not going to be there because of a computer disaster and she had the audacity to recommend that I wait until Monday to go see the Apple Geniuses because I really should be in precept. Hahahahaha. I told her to go f*ck herself (nicely) and that I had other scheduling constraints that prevented me from getting down there on Monday. I did not tell her that those scheduling constraints are 1) I cannot function without no laptop for an entire weekend and 2) precept small group is not that helpful anyway, you Philosophy major who knows nothing about book history. Anyway! I skipped precept and headed downtown with Debra to get the good/bad news about my laptop and to have dinner if it was good news and get plastered if it was bad news. It was good news, and they were able to fix it right there in the story. The Genius who helped me was so nice and sweet and I kind of wanted to kiss him on his be-bearded mouth, right there in the Apple store on Michigan Avenue. I restrained myself, thinking D would probably not approve, and Deb and I headed to Greektown to meet some friends for dinner. Greektown's El stop is the UIC campus and wow, what a sketch area. Maybe just because it was dark but whoa, rivaled UofC's in sketch factor. The nice thing about UIC's El stop though is that you walk three blocks and you're on the set of My Big Fat Greek Wedding. I think they might have actually filmed that in Chicago. If not, they should have. We had an amazing (and cheap!) dinner and headed back to Hyde Park early in the evening. I was warm, full of excellent Greek food, and in bed by 11am. The next morning I got up early and headed back downtown to do some research at the Newberry Library. The folks there are so! nice! They explain everything, are super helpful, and the security guard even loaned me a quarter for the locker when I didn't have one. I got some real work done on my thesis and now I won't feel so shamed when I meet with my adorable thesis adviser on Monday. Yes! Professor S, I have done some actual work on my thesis! Let's get married now, you adorable Harry Potter look alike you. Saturday night was even more thrilling, so brace yourselves. I did laundry, baked cookies, cleaned, and even mended clothes. Like, with a needle and thread. I am a domestic GODDESS. Of course I was inspired to do all of this after several generous glasses of wine so it is a wonder the cookies turned out and that I did not sew myself to a shirt but still! Domesticity. This all badly needed to be done. Well not the cookies so much but the laundry! The pile was almost as tall as I am. This morning I woke up to a snowstorm and trudged out in it anyway to get to the library when it opened. I spent most of the day facing the window so I could see the blinding snow and not think I was missing something by not being out and about. I got a ton of work done and even managed to hit up the gym, something that has been kind of a luxury lately. I'm trying to head into tenth week and finals with as much stuff done ahead of time so I don't have a nervous breakdown. We have ONE WEEK to rejuvenate (while writing 25 pages of our thesis, due the first day of Spring Quarter) and then Spring Quarter begins. This is the beginning of the end. I applied for graduation today. Holy shit.
